Inquiry :)

About inquiry: I'm in the lovely Graduation inquiry with Troy ( the best teacher in the world! ) And I am in the photo booth group with Rileigh-Kaye. With a giant piece of cardboard, PVA glue, 12 and a half printed graffiti paper and that's how we created the photo booth background!

We used blue paint and white paint but it's yet to be finished.... The photo booth frame. Inspired by the Instagram frame on the website.... That was Troys great idea!!!! Here it is

Reflection: We have made a lot of improvement. We have added features to the Instagram frame, cut and perfected the graffiti background. Then we made a photo booth sign indicating where the photo booth will stand.

Questions: 

How will this benefit/effect others? It will benefit and effect others in a good way because we are preparing one of the most special years for RSS's year 6's. Also, the props and background represent how we are young and fun so it gives us a bit of freedom.

What would you add/take away? I would love to add one of those arrows that flash and direct    passing people to where the photo booth is. But, I wouldn't mind taking off the finger prints but unfortunately we had to add them because there were already big black smudges!

When did you think your work would be done? I personally thought it would have been done round the middle of inquiry but we bearly got it finished on the last day. But Rileigh-Kaye and I are very proud of what we have done!

Bloom Questions 2- Buddy

#1 Create a character that could be Ash's best friend? I think my buddy (  Thomas ) could be Ash's best friend because Thomas could easily out run a lion, but, if it could not be Thomas it would have to be different of Ash. Nerdy, weak, asks less questions. Otherwise, I think ash can just chill with Ranan.

#2 Tell me another time when a person told you about a friend dying? That has never happened to me before.

#3 What do you think Ash was feeling when the Moran told his story? I think Ash could of felt a but emotional. Sad mainly. But I'm thinking that he was quite curious about what happened with the lion and his friend plus why did the lion attack? 

How would have you handled the situation when sempuku's friend died? It would have been sad and unfortunate that someone had died by Ash's worst nightmare.... The lion! And since you only just met the Moran people so it wouldn't of been terribly tear worthy.  

Bloom Questions - Buddy

#1 Tell me another time you got attacked by an animal? I haven't really been attacked but since my dog, yogi, is a puppy he gets rough and starts having a fit if he doesn't get what he wants ( he is basicaly like a toddler ) so he bites.

#2 What would have happened if Ranan missed the shot at the baboon? Well, if it had missed the baboon could launch itself at Ash or Ranan and cause serious injuries or even death!

#3 Why did Ranan come back to save Ash? He didn't really leave him. He just went out a few metres away to find a rock to through at the baboon. But I'm taking it that Ranan did kinda ditch Ash but at least he made up for it by conquering the beastly baboon.

#4 Why do you think Ash didn't want to sleep in the hut? Okay, so there is one OVIOUS reason..... The hut is made out of poo so why would you want to sleep in there, and there was another man sleeping on the same mattress as home and his dad and another man is the same room also.

I think I am a Self Agentic learner because ( Troy said so ) and I am always trying my best and that I always get the job done in time but up to standard of the big boss ( troy )

The goal that I am currently working on is I consciously seek the cognitive wobble to enhance my learning. 

The things I need to do to achieve this goal are focusing on who my blockers and drivers are but also making sure I don't go off track around friends or classmates that will distract me, and to attempt to get myself deeper into the cognitive wobble. :D

Bloom Questions :)

1. Why is every one crowding ash when he gets there: because they probably haven't seen a light skinned person in a while or before. To add onto that he has blonde hair!

2. How would you of handled ashes situations when his dad said he couldn't go to Africa: I would have asked " please " a few times until I KNOW that he won't let me and/or just say to myself " another day, another time " but I would be disappointed that I missed out on that really cool experience!

3. Describe what ash would of thought when he was now allowed to go to Africa: he would of been overflowing with rage, he would of been really devastated that's he was not allowed to come because of silly reasons like his dad didn't want him to miss out on school work.

4. Do you think ash would be embarrassed because he was different: I don't think he was embarrassed I just think he found it weird because he kept getting steered at by people that have never seem his " type " before.

Follow up task # chapter 3-6

• What do you think about Ash’s first impressions of Africa?  I think that he thought that Africa were people in colourful clothing and a fun but humid place full of wild life along with it being boring and having gross food and factory's. 
• Why do you think he says, “Dad, everything’s weird?”  (p.23) I think because he isn't used to people staring at him and everyone around him is wearing something weird like big earlobe/baseball earrings or fancy multicoloured pyjama type headdresses and clothing.

• Who is the author targeting with this humour: “I put a pair of socks at the top of my pack.  I’d worn them at gym class for a week and road tested them on Gran.  She nearly passed out and said a word I’d get grounded for saying when she opened my pack to check that I had my comb”? (p. 26) Give reasons for your opinion. I'm not COMPLETELY sure but I think they are targeting people who don't CLEAN there stuff propaly or not at all. And there can be the option of people who look through your bags /luggage and if you put some dirty laundry on the top the can the bothered to look through the rest of the suitcase because they'd probably think it's full of dirty, filthy, gross clothing that the owners couldn't be bothered to get off there butts and wash it!

• Do you think Ash’s comments about coming “face to face with a bunch of cannibals” (p.27) are appropriate or offensive? What helped you form your opinion? Well, I wouldn't say that it's offensive but it's not really appropriate either. Alas, I have to choose. I think it's more offensive because he is basing a dream on reality, like he may think that African and/or african culture has something to do with being fierce, cruel and all around cannibal but it's false.

• Do you think the government should stop lions being killed for ceremonial purposes? (p.35) What is your stance on this issue? It really depends on how many lions are left... If it's a dangerously low number ( which it potentially become true ) but if it's a high number I don't see why not..  

The Sign Of A Warrior Follow Up...2

It’s a magic word that transports me to a deep, dark, lion-infested jungle, where drums are beating and the men with spears held high are as black as bat wings.” (p.2)  Is Ash’s perception of Africa realistic or a biased view formed from misinformation?  What’s your opinion?  

I think it's just misinformation he got from a dream he had when he was about 7 because Africa isn't really like that. It's more like a vibrant colourful country with smiles, huts and creativity. Ash is just got a really wild image of a wildly amazing place!

“I can see he (Dad) could do with some hugging, but there’s a table and a you-left-me-behind space between us.” (p.7) What inferences can you make from this text? What is meant by you-left-me-behind space?

When it said " you-left-me-behind space " it's sounds like Ash is holding a grudge from that one experience when he couldn't come with his dad overseas and now he is realising the table is a good barrier between him and his father. And don't you think he is sounding a bit lazy when he ads the table into the event?

Can you identify with the way Ash “plays his cards” (pp.6-8) when he tries to persuade Dad to take him to Africa? When have you “played cards” to persuade someone to accept your way of thinking?

Ash is trying to take the mickey out of his dad by persuading him and approaching him with different stratergys like when you play with cards you need the BEST stratergy to win the game and this is like what happens when you are REALLY playing cards.

The sign of a warrior

# I chose ' The Sign Of A Warrior ' because the page that you read here has a lot of detail about where this character is based at... Which is Africa..... From the very first sentence to the last sentence it hooked me in and since I love descriptive language this is an amazing book for me!

# The front cover of this book appeals to me because I love animals so the lion and the spider appealed to my ' animal standard ' I also like the way it silhouetted. But why is man holding a spear? Is it a spear or stick? Is the lion in the middle of a kill zone with that man?! Is he a hunter/poacher? Why has the lion not noticed him?

# What hooked me in was the blurb. The bottom piece of text in the blurb sounds like the character is down in the dumps with 2 sort of opinions on the...... Holiday?  Also, the end of the blurb ' a lion is pinning him down' really gives you a sense of anxiousness and suspense. Is this man gonna kill the lion? Or will he save the day by tranquillising it and giving it to the proper authorities? Does he risk himself for the person who's getting attacked? Or will he run away in fear? 

Predictions: Maybe the man in the background is the baddy so he is going to kill the lion pretending that it was killing someone. Or the lion is the baddy and he attacks someone and ' the sign of a warrior' is the man defending the victim by slaying the lion or scaring it away. Along with the spider? I think this because the cover and the blurb explains a lot but not everything......

Te REO Portfolio

Description: When the people in kapa haka go a big group of is do te reo. During ET REO we have been focusing on maori body parts. We had to make a piece teaching people maori body parts. Firstly we selected who we were working with, then the audience age group, then or activity ( poster, puppet pals etc...) once we chose, we put the piece together and showed it to the teachers..... This is what I did

Big idea: The task was to make it so all ages can understand. We had to put the maori word along side the English word, aswell as having a picture so people can understand the message we are trying to send across! We had a limited time to complete the challenge and in the end we shared it with the ET REO group and they cracked up at the.... Um.... Kumu bit ( bum )

Feedback and Feedforward:  I think five year olds will love the humor but next time you could work on the back ground noise because people can hear wind at the start :)-Kate

Evaluation: I think I did a really good job of speaking clarely and making it understandable for the audience. When Rileigh, Emma and I shared it everyone really enjoyed it ( really when the kumu/bum part ) I think we could of worked on where we recorded because you can here the wind in the start of our video. Overall, I did an awesome job doing everything, especially working together with my group!

Description: In Troy A, we have been focusing on the appropriate/efficient strategy. This term, we are doing it around multiplication. In every workshop I attened, I want to find the most efficient strategy to work from. 

To solve this question I doubled 35...

Twice: 70

Four Times: 140

Five Times: 175

Since that's 5 away from 180 the answer would be 5 remainder 5 which is 6. This strategy is KF

To solve this question you split the 180 into 70, 70 and 40. Now you see how many 35's there are in70,70 and 40, which gives you the answers below that. 2,2 and 1 plus them together and that equals 5. But, since there's 5 left in the 40 it will be 5 remainder 5= 6 I used the strategy 

To solve this question you double the 15 to make it a 30 and half the 12 to make 6

3x6= 18

Add a 0

30x6= 180

I used the stratergy doubling and halving stratergy which is technically PLAT

To solve this you take away 2 from the 12 to make 10 and I know that 15x10= 150

15x2= 30

150+30= 180

Evaluation: I think I improved in my division and multiplication during the workshops because the  way that he tort me really motivated me to do better. I think I need to work on my multiplication and thinking quick.

Passion Project Term 3

WALT use the PASSION inquiry process to investigate my passion independently/in small groups

Big idea/task:For my passion project, I have been leaning towardsagainst plans on the Harakeke. Rosalind, Emma, Rileigh and I are focusing on revamping the Harakeke, like putting some new flax and native shrubbery into the space or even cut down the tower of terror ( the tree ) We want to bring the Harakeke back to life. Add as much more Māori culture as we can.

My passion has grown for the Harakeke and we are looking forward to when our job has been done.

Evidence: When we went and interviewed David, he gave me a folder with all the precious information about the Harakeke and the flax, layout and original plans for the space. We wrote this info down in a doc and we shared it with our group so we could all contribute into this passion project. We also have been throwing out ideas we could do, aswell as talking to Dave ( jetts dad ) he is an outside designer! THIS IS SOME INFO....

New Zealand Flax

Phormium tenax

The value placed on the flax plant by the old-time Māori can perhaps be assessed by the astonishment expressed by some chiefs in the early days of contact when apprised of the fact the plant did not grow in England. They asked "how is it possible to live there without it?" - Colenso 1891. It wasn't long before Pākehā settler found he couldn't do without flax either in those first years, being so far away from supplies of manufactured goods. 

A commission was even sent up to report to the New Zealand parliament as to the best ways to prepare flax for manufacture, and many learned gentlemen gave their views. All parts of the plant were used by the Māori for one purpose or another, including medicinal. Specific varieties did specific jobs: one variety for the soft fibre produced, another for its strength, another for its capacity to take dye, etc. 

Appropriately for a plant of such importance, it's Māori ancestral line is impeccable, being descended from one of the sons of Rangi (the Sky Father), a celestial entity named Haumia Tiketike who also presides over fern root, rahurahu, and the hebe species, koromiko, through his son Tuna-Rangi.

Evaluation: My group and I are so nearly there! After having a talk with a few experts we have been put on track. We have been working well together and agreeing on other ideas. I found it hard gathering knowledge at the start but now it's pretty easy!

Description: Every Friday we have been focusing on production. We went through a series of "tasters" which means we went through workshops with Troy, Rebecca and Kate/Elly. There were 3 themes.

I'm in Kate's, which is out of Africa. After we got into our groups we created our very own mood board.  We incorperated the designs, fabric, colours, animals and cultural items about Africa. This is mine!

Big idea: I have decided to be an Africa Elephant sunset ( if that makes sence ) it will be and elephant with the colours of a sunset. I am planning on making the elephant out of cardboard and painting it to look like a sunset. I wear it like a bag with to holes for my arms to fit through. This is my progress

1) The materials that I used to create my garment were: Cardboard, Paint ( acrylic, face, water based paints ) buttons, ribbons and a rubber band ( using staples, strong woody cardboard and masking tape to hold it together )

2) The most challenging thing about production for me was: Getting the really flimsy cardboard to a more strong structure.

3) One way I demonstrated a growth mindset during production was: Holding it together. It was really flimsy at the time and I was worried it might not work!

4) Something I am really proud of about production was: The paint mixture. The paint really soaks up the word Africa! It's blended in awesomely and it really looks good from far away.

5) Our school vision is to create agency, creativity and excellence! I showed this by: Creating something out of this world! I mean seriously, you don't see people making a sunset elephant mad out of cardboard do you? The answer for that is NO! My idea is original ( until it looks to similar to my sisters class who are making cardboard dinosaurs like mine but not a Dino! That's sort of where my idea grew from )

WRITING PORTFOLIO SAMPLE

Description: In Troys writing group we are focusing on sentences. I am working on a mixture of short and long sentences. I am trying to get better at this by making short, suspenseful sentences and long, awesome sentences!

Big idea: My goal is to use a mixture of short and long sentences in my writing. I always use long sentences, so my prioritie is to focus on my short sentences. We got a picture ( it's down at the bottom of my post. My iPad go's weird sometimes ) and we were motivated by this outstanding photo!

Feedback & Feedforward: I liked how you added a personal voice and your twist to the story, Sadly, there was nothing bad in this story, escept for the swearing, but that is my opinion, so it was all awesome!   - Rileigh :D

Evaluation: I agree with Rileigh ( not meaning to brag ) I think I did a great job, probably my best piece of writing yet! I used a great mixture of short and long sentences which is my goal. I'll just need to work on my speech marks like my inverted commars. - Me :D

Reading Portfolio Sample

Description: Since I'm in summaring I had to do a specific Tic-Tac-Toe. For one of my Tic-Tac-Toes I did the World Body Painting Competition with Rileigh. Doing this activity, we had to summarise what happened at this event. We read an article about what happened and what they did. So instead of just writing a summarising piece, Rileigh-Kaye and I decided to make a video.

Big idea: At first I didn't know how to summarise properly but since I have been going to the work shops I have made a big amount of progress in how to summarise the main event if it's in a story, an article or in this case an event. During summarising activities, I always struggled to get small bits of writing out of a big story! 

Feedback and feedforward: I love your Body Painting Report. You spoke nice and clear. You completed that task thoroughly and I was very interested in hearing what you had to say about Body Painting. I think you might need to put a few more pictures on so that visual learners are interested to. I love your video. Great Job! Rosalind :}

Evaluation: I think I did a great job on speaking clearly and speaking from the heart at some points. I also liked the way we used the sound affects and pictures they really added a little something to the video. I think, I personally maybe even rileigh struggled with getting the words right so that it would look like we are real reporters not some kids ready from a book. Overall we did an outstanding job! :}

THE MURDERER WITH..... THE BLUNT KNIFE?!

The Murderer With.....The Blunt Knife?!

One day in a small city there lived Chloe, the richest teenager ever! And Goose the sneakiest murderer ever to live. Now.... Time to get started.. As Goose hatched his plan as he acted as an outcasted hobo, peering at the teenager who just bought one of the most expensive valuable diamond rings in the world, he waited till night so he could capture the RING! When night fell upon the city, he moved with slickness through the shadows like a stray cat and his black clothing blended in with his 'night crawling' surroundings. As he clambered up the skyscraper, peering through the window he laid his eyes upon...... A LADY IN THE SHOWER!!!!!!!!! ( Whoops he said embarrassingly ) As he popped his head back down....

It was 12.30 at night, she NOW was in bed..... Finally..... Goose lunged himself and commando rolled onto her bean bag. As Chloe snored away, hugging her minion plush tightly, she had know idea what she was in for. Goose stood up, almost knocking over a $530 dollar lamp with his butt and yanked out his knife ( he had to yank it out of his underwear because he doesn't have pockets so he put it in his pants. It got tangled in his undies ) anyway......

With a burp that woke up Chloe, he pushed the knife into..... OH?! It didn't go through at all, as Chloe screamed he continuously kept stabbing and stabbing but he soon realised it was BLUNT?! He failed Gary! His partner in crime! His very own brother " NOOOO " he cried. As Chloe, still screaming, pushed him out of the window..... He landed face first on the concrete. With blue trickling down his face like a flowing stream, his life ended HE JUST DIED!?Goose died a slow and dark death, as Gary bravely looked on. THE END!
