Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae

Description: In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville.  We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities.  We set two goals to focus on during our stay.

 Big Idea:
1.  Did you achieve your goals?  How do you know?
I achieved all my goals at the marae. I know this because I completed all the rotations and I joined in, in every activity they threw at me. Both my goals in my camp diary were achievable.

2.  What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why?
I am proud of staying at the marae because I have never, ever stayed in a building, sleeping over night with about 70 people. But even though It smelt like deodorant in one end of the room, and my bubblegum spray in the other half I still had fun.

3.  What challenged you the most and why?
The most challenging thing at the marae was waking up. I woke up super early (a bit earlier then usual on a school day ) with Rileigh-Kaye and we couldn't go back to sleep. So we just lay there waiting for maybe an hour and a half. Now that was challenging!

Transformation ( Ellys Geometry )

Description:

We have been learning about transformation.  We have specifically learnt that...

  • translation is when an object slides in any direction;

  • rotation is when an object is turned around a central point;

  • reflection is when an object is flipped and has a line of symmetry.

Our challenge was to design a car badge that contained at least one of these aspects of transformation.

Feedback/Feedforward: Well done Olivia your car badge really does represent you with the O and the dog paw print the only thing I think you need to work on is making sure there are no misquito bites.

Grace.S :)

Evaluation: Next time if we do this again that I would want more time to make my circles perfect. Also, I think I could work on getting my lines, curves and corners EXACTLY the same...... My rushed colouring could of been better.

Why are there stars in the sky?

Purpose: create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.

-Between 1 and 2 minutes long
-Using your voice to make sounds effects
-Using your whole body to make actions
-Use your face to tell a story through facial expression
-Knowing the story, knowing the setting
-Get the picture into your listener’s head
-Stay in character - keep your composure.
-Audience participation
-Unique and original (Hook your audience)

Big idea: I think my story is about explaining how the stars are made and the story behind the stars creation.... I did not perform my story at the marae, but I did end up being recorded! :)
I wanted to do my story about the stars because I love
Evaluation: I think I could of worked on interacting with the audience abit more, if I had the time.
Feedback/feedforward: I think you did well in presenting your voice and actions to the audience. I liked the way you were really confident when getting up in front of the audience. But I think you can work on interacting with the crowd a bit more.

Stuck on the escalator

Description: Rooms 14, 13 and 12 watched a video about three people getting stuck on the escalator, not bothering to walk up. We created our own 30 second clips. I worked with Bella I and Ana and we ended up with two great clips. In class we practised giving eachother feedback and feedforward after we watches some of their movies. Hope you ENJOY!!!!!

Criteria: (Content)
1. Video - 30 seconds long, time is limited.
2. Scenario - Show someone being stuck and not using the ability to act.
3. Clear Message - Short sharp clip. Can the watcher get the point of your video?
4. Unique - Coming up with something funny that gets a laugh from others.
5. Time Passing - Do you need to show time passing in your clip to emphasise your message.

Criteria: (Movie)
1. Light - Make sure the sun isn’t creating a hard to see clip.
2. Voice Volume - Needs to be louder than other background volume eg Noise, Kids.
3. Frame - What’s in the frame to make your message obvious
4. Steady Hands - Make sure the camera is still.
5. Individual Clips - Don’t do one continuous shot of 30 seconds. Make a range of short clips and join together.http://youtu.be/Tg6XpJbke

Evaluation: I think next time I could of made a better angle for the road patrol video. Other wise my camera skills were very good.
Feedback/feedforward: I like in the first movie that you had a still camera and you had a good setting.
I Think you could work on in your second movie you could have had a stiller camera. Emma Mollet

My swimming

DESCRIPTION: This term we have started swimming again. We made a video to show our skills in the pool. We looked back at to our video and observed what we could get better at. Then we made a goal.

My goal is to: Curve my legs when I am doing breaststroke. I plan to acheive this goal by swimming sports. I am going to acheive this goal by making sure my legs are under water at all times, that way I know if my legs are curved or not. I will practise at school and at home so I am ready for when swimming sports approaches. I will give feedback to others and they will give feedback back to me.

13/3/15

Evaluation: I think I improved because I could really feel my breaststroke legs curving and I could feel my body pushing forward a bit further then my last swimming. Practising my breaststroke made me come 2nd place at swimming sports, I can now NATURALLY curve my feet to propell myself through the water. Next time I plan to complete my goal in more then about five weeks so I am prepared for further swimming events....

Math testing

DESCRIPTION:On our stage six test we had to highlight the wrong ones pink and the right ones yellow. My math goals are......  Write the numbers, write the words, how many and multiplication facts. We chose a partner to test us on the questions that we got wrong. I had Hannah Kidd, Hannah and I make a good team in school and out.

I went flying through stage four and five, But stage six really stumped me. On stage six I went through a number of hard questions mixed with the simple ones. I got a confidence boost and got a score I'm proud of. Math is not my strong point but I found this fun but also challenging. My score was..
Stage 4: %100
Stage 5: % 94
Stage 6:% 57

I'm going to acheive my goal by practising in my own time and studing hard through testing and "quizzing "
