Te Ahu a Turanga Noho Marae
Description: In week 7, we had an overnight stay at the local Marae in Woodville. We were immersed in Maori culture and participated in a range of activities. We set two goals to focus on during our stay.
Big Idea:
1. Did you achieve your goals? How do you know?
I achieved all my goals at the marae. I know this because I completed all the rotations and I joined in, in every activity they threw at me. Both my goals in my camp diary were achievable.
2. What are you most proud of from the marae stay and why?
I am proud of staying at the marae because I have never, ever stayed in a building, sleeping over night with about 70 people. But even though It smelt like deodorant in one end of the room, and my bubblegum spray in the other half I still had fun.
3. What challenged you the most and why?
The most challenging thing at the marae was waking up. I woke up super early (a bit earlier then usual on a school day ) with Rileigh-Kaye and we couldn't go back to sleep. So we just lay there waiting for maybe an hour and a half. Now that was challenging!

Transformation ( Ellys Geometry )
Description:
We have been learning about transformation. We have specifically learnt that...
translation is when an object slides in any direction;
rotation is when an object is turned around a central point;
reflection is when an object is flipped and has a line of symmetry.
Our challenge was to design a car badge that contained at least one of these aspects of transformation.
Feedback/Feedforward: Well done Olivia your car badge really does represent you with the O and the dog paw print the only thing I think you need to work on is making sure there are no misquito bites.
Grace.S :)
Evaluation: Next time if we do this again that I would want more time to make my circles perfect. Also, I think I could work on getting my lines, curves and corners EXACTLY the same...... My rushed colouring could of been better.

Why are there stars in the sky?
Purpose: create a story to share orally
Description: Oral storytelling is a Maori tradition. We have been planning our own story to tell on the Marae in Week 7.
-Between 1 and 2 minutes long
-Using your voice to make sounds effects
-Using your whole body to make actions
-Use your face to tell a story through facial expression
-Knowing the story, knowing the setting
-Get the picture into your listener’s head
-Stay in character - keep your composure.
-Audience participation

-Audience participation
-Unique and original (Hook your audience)
Big idea: I think my story is about explaining how the stars are made and the story behind the stars creation.... I did not perform my story at the marae, but I did end up being recorded! :)
I wanted to do my story about the stars because I love
Evaluation: I think I could of worked on interacting with the audience abit more, if I had the time.
Feedback/feedforward: I think you did well in presenting your voice and actions to the audience. I liked the way you were really confident when getting up in front of the audience. But I think you can work on interacting with the crowd a bit more.

Star test*
We did a star test a few days ago. We did this to help us find a reading goal. After we got our tests back. We evaluated our scores. 1,2,3,4 and a total..... 45 is my total and I'm prepared to get better at my test, to get a better score.
I think my goal is to use prior knowledge to connect with the text. I will acheive this by searching through books and the dictionary for words I can work on. Since I am a voracious reader, I know most words but not all of them. But one thing I could work on is going through the answers, properly and carefully.

Crazy Bus Stop Writing
Purpose: Describe the characteristics of an object.
WACKY BUS STOP STEALS THE ATTENTION OF THE PUBLIC EYE.
Have you ever seen a bus stop with snazzy yellow paint, crafted by pieces of old junky buses. Well here's your chance to see one. 25 year old Samantha Green, sculpted a piece of scrap metal to a piece of modern day art. "Me, my husband and to kids Lisa and Michael came up with an idea for us to do in the holidays" Samantha explained. " Daddy let me use the carving knife and paint to sketch in the school bus doorway. Unfortunately I lost my favourite finger, the pinky finger, I have got a fake one now!" Quoted Michael
An hour later they had managed to melt the bits together. Steve says " My wife just through me a bucket of gleaming yellow paint and she said to me, no lunch until we've smothered this bus stop in paint, I was guttered! I could really go for some fish and chips right about now." After lunch they started working on the details. " We are quite a wealthy family so when we moved to this mansion, we obviously found a hidden room with lots of chainsaws and nails. That is handy if I do say so myself!" Said Samantha.
10 hours later they finished the detailing and shuffled the bus stop out to the street. " I swear there's something missing." Exclaimed Lisa. " Just then I realised what was missing, so I shouted, MUM!!!! We forgot the seat! Mum said she will be back in a minute. A minute later she came back with a brown wooden bench seat. Dad screwed it on and....... Ta dah! All finished!" Shouted Lisa.
Ever since that day, the stop is a hit. Popular then, popular now!

Jerky
Task: A time I had to pretend I liked a particular food.
Description: Rooms 14, 13 and 12 are writing about a time when we had to eat a type of food that we do not like. I had trouble at the start but then I had a brain wave. Enjoy.......
Jerky
* I remember being handed the stiff, brown stick of terror.
* What maniac would turn beautiful, succulent crocodile into this putrid....... JERKY!!!!!
* I snapped a corner of the "stick" and shoved it into my mouth.
* I crumpled my face trying to smile. The strong pungent smell lingered around in my breath. The poor crocodile.
* It tasted like dirt mixed with something else gross.
* If I gagged it will hurt their feelings.
* Here it goes, it's over, even though that pungent taste is still hovering around.

Stuck on the escalator
Description: Rooms 14, 13 and 12 watched a video about three people getting stuck on the escalator, not bothering to walk up. We created our own 30 second clips. I worked with Bella I and Ana and we ended up with two great clips. In class we practised giving eachother feedback and feedforward after we watches some of their movies. Hope you ENJOY!!!!!
Criteria: (Content)
1. Video - 30 seconds long, time is limited.
2. Scenario - Show someone being stuck and not using the ability to act.
3. Clear Message - Short sharp clip. Can the watcher get the point of your video?
4. Unique - Coming up with something funny that gets a laugh from others.
5. Time Passing - Do you need to show time passing in your clip to emphasise your message.
Criteria: (Movie)
1. Light - Make sure the sun isn’t creating a hard to see clip.
2. Voice Volume - Needs to be louder than other background volume eg Noise, Kids.
3. Frame - What’s in the frame to make your message obvious
4. Steady Hands - Make sure the camera is still.
5. Individual Clips - Don’t do one continuous shot of 30 seconds. Make a range of short clips and join together.http://youtu.be/Tg6XpJbke
Evaluation:
I think next time I could of made a better angle for the road patrol
video. Other wise my camera skills were very good.
Feedback/feedforward: I like in the first movie that you had a still camera and you had a good setting.
I Think you could work on in your second movie you could have had a stiller camera. Emma Mollet
