Hangi

This is a picture story of a hangi. It explains how to make a hangi and the purpose of it.
A hangi is a Maori way to cook and eat food. It is also a good way to get fresh air and to make friendship bonds.
Feedback feed forward: I think you could add some more pictures,
Feedback: I like the way I expressed the hangi ways

My end of term reflection

WALT: evaluate our learning honestly

What is an effective learner?  An effective learner is a person with their heads down and they are always working and ready to work. Also an effective learner is a person that can help other people if their stuck because an effective learner is always prepared for learning.

What were the highlights for this term? Why? My biggest highlight for this term was petday because all the pets settled in and we made a lot of money to donate to the SPCA. 114.10 dollars is awesome. It was so fun to be with all the animals and my friends. We had a blast.

What were your greatest challenges this term?  Why? My greatest challenge was petday as well because the first few hours were critical. The cats were meowing, the budgies were tweeting and cheeping. But in the end me, maia and the crew sorted it out before brunch.

How are you going towards acting with integrity? Why?  How could you improve? Me working towards integrity is getting better and better because I am getting my priorities done faster and tidier. I help my friends and siblings finish homework and just plane work! What I could work on is to work like an effective learner because I can get a bit sidetracked sometimes.

What are your goals in our learner disposition wall?  Where to next? On the learner dispotision wall I am on self-managing and I am glad of my stage because I am up to standard of the goals I have to do on it. But I have some things to work on like finishing my work in the time provided. By the end of next term I should be able to put my face on self-directed. I am going to work really hard to get my goals done.

Grasshopper tennis

WALT: improve out small balls skills like throwing, catching and hitting.
Big john is fun. He taught me a lot of techniques that have helped me to discover the fun of tennis.

Description: we all did really well at tennis and I did as well. We used different skills do these activities like: temple tap down, lobster glue, the lobster game ect. We have been participating in a tennis programme with Big John (John Salisbury) from Tennis Manawatu. He has taught us some tennis skills that help with controlling and hitting the ball.
Why? To reflect on how we are going with the tennis skills we have learnt. We will share this during our Student Led Conference.
When? Week 8
Who? The World
Evaluation:
What are you most proud of and why: I am most proud of my race track because I got the balance of the ball to stay to the edge of the racquet.

What challenged you the most and Why: in tennis the activitie that challenged me the most has to be the slice the cheese because it always slipped past the edge of the racquet and that made it hard to make it hit the slim bit of the racquet without it slipping away.

Next time, what is a goal you can work towards: my goal is to work on the lobster glue because me and my partner for the lobster glue ( Emma D ) kept missing the ball because our feet didn't want to go the same way so we ended up tripping over eachothers legs.

Feedback/feedforward from buddy/teacher/parent
Buddy feedback & feedforward:
Wow Olivia. You have lots of greens and oranges but no reds! You are a much better tennis player than me. What I think you need to work on is trying to controll the ball a bit more. Aye
My Comment: I like the way I persevered in tennis to get the goals I needed what I could work on is my balance with the ball on my racquet.

Feedback: I think you have done a great job and you have told us what integrity means and and example.

What I could of worked on is the backround. It is likely to catch people's eye.

Potential & Kinetic Writing Sample

 WALT: inform

DESCRIPTION: Write an explanation about something you have learned about energy.

What? We are publishing a piece of writing.
Why? To share on our blog and during our Student Led Conference.
When? Week 6
Who? The World

Your post must have a:
Title (capital letters for beginning of each word)
WALT
Image - something visual for the reader
Description
Evaluation - how well do I think I did (target/criteria)
Feedback/feedforward from buddy/teacher/parent

Description: my writing is about kinetic and potential energy. It explains how newtons cradle works. Also it explains that kinetic and potential energy are not the same thing. Sir Isaac Newton created the newtons cradle.

My writing

What is kinetic energy? Is it a heat energy? Is it a light energy? It's neither! Kinetic energy is a moving type of energy.
Kinetic energy can transfer from place to place. ( potential energy sits there because it is a still type of energy. ) Sir Isaac Newton is the creator of newtons cradle. If you take a newtons cradle for example hold one of the end balls of the newtons cradle and that represents potential energy because - ( the newtons cradle is always equal. The balls in the middle don't move because they are being supported by the end balls so the kinetic energy goes straight through them and into the end ball so that means the first ball starts with all the kinetic energy. But when the balls stop that's when they run out of kinetic energy.) Newton's three laws were about kinetic and potential energy- (and how that kinetic energy can move through different objects.)Kinetic energy has the ability to move from place to place.
Sir Isaac Newton knew that the kinetic energy would go through the balls and hit the end ball with that energy.
In conclusion kinetic energy in moving and potential energy in still.
Anything that moves will have kinetic energy in it.

By Olivia Bovey

Peer comment: WOW Olivia what a great piece of writing, I like how you explained what newtons cradle is. I give you an 8/10. Lili
Self comment: I think I did well because I really explained how kinetic energy worked through the balls. I give myself an 9/10 because I had to edit a lot but I got there in the end.
Teacher comment: You have started with a main point at the start of your  body paragraph.

include evidence (facts, experiments etc) to support my main point

I really like how you have developed an example tha might be new to the reader

explain the evidence and how it proves my main point

You have persevered to try to explain how/why your example proves your point - this is really tricky, well done.

Practise writing a linkingsentence to my next paragraph

Your ideas link in your paragraphs. Have a look at how writers link between paragraphs.

infuse style: topic-specifc vocab, second/third person, present tense, transition words

Great style. You have used some transition words.

Science post

Me and Charlotte have created a 17 second movie about potential and kinetic energy.
WALT show our understanding of how energy works.

Description: we have been learning about energy. To share our learning we have made a video to explain how energy works.

Task: make a 30 second ( or under ) about our understanding of energy.

This is a diagram ebony made with our maths groups for some tips of how to make a movie successful. Enjoy!
Feedforward: we were amazing! You were good in the movie and I was a good camera person. We worked together well! Charlotte

My Mnemonic: aeroplane

This is my mnemonic I created.
Mnemonic!
Purpose: the purpose of creating a mnemonic is it will help you remember a word in a funny way.
What: a spelling mnemonic
Why:to help you to remember tricky words
How: making random sentences that spell the word you are working on.
I learned: that it is a fun and brilliant  way to remember how to spell a particular word.

Next time: I could of added more detail to my master piece. My mnemonic.

Feedback & feedforward: I think you did a great job but maybe next time make it more clear. Emma D
